Tapas Life in Barcelona, Spain

Barcelona is a beautiful city with tons of energy, culture, and history. It is one of the largest cities in Spain known for its museums, Catalan Modernist architecture, food markets, tapas, and nightlife. A convenient destination for those looking for good food, sightseeing, and shopping, Barcelona is a must-visit destination.

I have traveled to Barcelona a few times for work and play, and it is one of my favorite destinations. After one trip, it is easy to feel like a native once you get the lay of the land. The city has a mixture of crowded shopping and restaurant districts interwoven with residential neighborhoods. For first-time visitors who want to experience the true bustling nature of Barcelona, I recommend staying in or near these neighborhoods: L’Eixample, El Raval, Gothic Quarter, or Barceloneta. Here, you will find a well-balanced mixture of casual and fine dining, luxury, and fast-fashion shopping, as well as tourist landmarks. Barceloneta is a bit different from the others listed in that it is a seaside neighborhood with a yacht-filled marina, a nearby beach for sunbathers, and restaurants boasting freshly caught seafood.

Explore the city! Spend your days viewing Catalan art at the many museums. You would be remiss to pass on the breathtaking architectural work of Antoni Gaudí. Before traveling, look into the destinations you want to visit as many require reservations and ticket purchases. Be prepared to wait in lines if you do not pre-purchase tickets ahead of your trip, especially for the Sagrada Familia. Getting around the city is super simple; the city’s transit system is pretty convenient for those interested in saving money. However, cabs are my preferred mode of transportation. Drivers are readily available and familiar with landmarks and popular hotels. They are accustomed to heavy traffic and can provide alternate routes.

Barcelona has a lot to offer singles, couples and families traveling.
